Celebrity
profile. Gordon Brown.
What
motivates this man? What is he really like away from the cameras? His
chart suggests a complex person with many facets to his nature.
He
has the Sun in Pisces, a marked contrast to the fiery Sign of Aries that
rules his Ascendant. Basically, he is a sensitive man, something if an
idealist, and I suspect that there is a caring and compassionate side to
his nature hidden behind the 'Iron Chancellor'; it occasionally shows
through, but you'd be hard pressed to see it.
To
make matters more complex there are only two aspects to his Sun. The
first comes from Uranus which makes him a highly independent thinker,
someone who needs to go his own way and who will simply not be
pigeonholed or told what to do. Capable of some very clever and
innovative ideas, Gordon will often surprise his colleagues by
suggesting and doing things least expected. He is also an innovator,
someone who likes progress and dislikes convention.
In
complete contrast, Saturn makes a difficult aspect to his Sun that will
see him hesitate because he is unsure of his ground and fearful of
making a mistake. His reputation as a ditherer is well known - Saturn is
the cause. Sun - Saturn people almost invariably suffered from a
restricted childhood in which they had to grow up early and take on
responsibility. It couldn't have been a pleasant affair as the joy of
childhood was denied to him, possibly due to having to adhere to family
traditions that were overly stressed. It left its mark, so even today he
will find himself testing out the ground before making a move, ever
conscious of failure. Rules and regulations ruled his life so now he
tries to do this to others so that they cannot do anything other than
conform to his dictates. Very sad.
Aries
rules his Ascendant, and unlike his sensitive and imaginative Sun -
Pisces this Sign looks for action and shows initiative and even daring.
Sun - Aries Ascendant are not people to be messed with because although
they can give the appearance of being docile they are highly motivated
and react quickly when necessary. The greater the problem, the more
danger there is, the better he will like it, and in fact it is fair to
say that our gentle Piscean actually enjoys a crisis or a battle of wits
with enemies.
Mars
lies in his 12th House, a highly secretive position, again giving us the
impression that he is unmotivated and perhaps something of a dreamer.
But not so! He is a very good strategist and has the ability to keep his
plans secret until the time is right for decisive action. He also has
the ability to turn things to his advantage even when the odds are
against him or the obstacles seemingly insurmountable; somehow 'fate'
seems to come to his aid and a solution comes his way. The closeness of
Jupiter to Mars suggests almost boundless energy and an optimistic and
enthusiastic approach to life; he certainly isn't a person to take a
back seat or let the world go by. He relishes action. The conjunction of
Mars and Venus - the ruler of his 7th House - means he forms strong
alliances, many of them secretly, in order to push his ideas through.
Neptune in his 7th House enhances this - he can be very
persuasive.
His
Moon has only two aspects, both critical to his public life.
Mercury
opposes his Moon and by doing so it causes misunderstandings with the
result that storms can sometimes gather around him. In this instance he
has a narrow perspective and a limited point of view, largely due to
those early childhood experiences. It results in self-doubt and fears.
Perhaps the biggest problem is that of wavering opinions - he will find
times when he simply cannot make up his mind for fear of making a
mistake. Often he will be seen overstating a point and generally being
over-talkative, and this can certainly be seen during interviews were he
will not give a straight answer to a question, resulting in a waning of
public trust - but he can't stop himself.
I
said he was a complex person earlier, but to add to this he has the
planet of complexity - Pluto - in close conjunction to his Moon. He is
very determined to succeed in whatever he does. No half measures here.
And, if necessary, he will make almost clinical changes if deemed
necessary, either by getting rid of underachievers, or promoting the
most unlikely people.
